Handcrafted Creations

Quilting Group

A group of quilters who had been making items for the Red Cross changed their focus and in 1979 became the RIH Quilters, making quilts to raffle in the community to raise funds to purchase equipment for the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

Only 2 of the original core group remain but many of our members have belonged since the early 1980’s   We are now a group of 17 ladies who meet every Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm to create wonderful hand appliqued, hand quilted quilts for our annual fall raffle, and 1 or 2 smaller quilts to raffle in the spring.

In August 2009, we relocated to the Kamloops Japanese Cultural Centre which has become our wonderful new home.

Our group also makes various other quilted items to sell at the Evening Auxiliary Craft-A-Fair the first Sunday in November as well as other craft sales throughout the year. Our items such as place mats, hot mats, baby quilts are also sold in the Gift Shop at RIH.

Proceeds from the raffles and sales are donated to the Afternoon Auxiliary for the purchase of equipment for the hospital through the RIH Foundation.

Handcrafted Creations

Crafters, Knitters, and Stitchers are the three sections that form the Handcrafted Creations group. These volunteers make the assorted handmade items which are available in the hospital Gift Shop, our bazaars and the Craft-A-Fair. There is always a variety of items to choose from on a regular basis. These ladies meet on the second floor of our Thrift Seller, which is located at 146 Victoria Street.

The Crafters meet on a Thursday afternoon at 1:15 pm for approximately 2 hours, which is when most of the crafted items are created.  Small affordable flower arrangements, Easter treats and Christmas crafts are the main areas we work on.  We are always looking for different unique things to make as well.

The Stitchers meet on Thursday mornings 9:30 am to 11 am. A good percentage of most of their product line is sewing items from a wide variety of fabrics available in the room. The creating is mainly done at home and brought into the meeting for pricing.  One can find baby items, assorted bags and kitchen accessories and some clothing items for sale at the Gift Shop.

Members of the public also donate beautiful knitted and crocheted items to us along with donations of wool and supplies.  Baby outfits, blankets, children’s sweaters, mitts, toques and slippers are very popular items available in the Gift Shop. The Knitters do not meet on a regular basis but work on their projects at home. We deliver the wool and pick up the finished product from the many ladies in the community.

Please call 250-314-2331 if you are interested in volunteering.  Donations of supplies or finished items will be gratefully received at the Gift Shop or Thrift Seller.
